One month into a historic strike, school bus drivers and matrons—workers who make sure children get on and off buses safely—need our support more than ever.

The city’s attack on 8,000 unionized workers is another dimension of a sustained campaign to weaken unions in NY, including the illegal firings of five McDonald’s workers and 22 Optimum (formerly Cablevision) union workers.

Bloomberg, the richest man in the city, spends millions of taxpayer money on education consultants but claims the city can’t afford to pay bus drivers an average salary of $35,000 per year.

It’s time to draw a line in the sand. A new world is possible: it begins with supporting these courageous striking workers, who will not bow down and allow Michael Bloomberg to destroy thousands of hard-won middle class jobs, severely impacting the children of New York in the process.

WHEN: Monday, 2/18, 12-1pm

WHERE: Tweed Building, DoE, 52 Chambers St. NYC

This article on the school bus strike is a must-read:

The battle between the city and the bus drivers represents the supremacy of budgets over quality of life. It illustrates what happens when communities, jobs and families are devalued, marginalized and destroyed while the language of austerity reigns, infallible. And it illuminates the hypocrisy of those in power who claim to care for our children’s safety but refuse to invest in it.

Can’t make it? Come to the picket line on your own (mornings are best).
